Marriage enrichment course offered locally
Dynamic Marriage, an eightweek class set to begin next month at First Street Church of Christ, offers all married couples an opportunity to improve their relationships, class facilitator Larry Lovett said.
Lovett and his wife, Margaret — who recently celebrated their 31st anniversary — will facilitate the series, which is based on Dr. Willard Harley’s books “His Needs, Her Needs — Building an Affair-Proof Marriage” and “5 Steps to Romantic Love.” The course, which emphasizes meeting a spouse’s emotional needs, uses a teaching method developed by the nationally recognized Family Dynamics Institute.
Lovett, who completed Dynamic Marriage with his wife when the couple had been married about 20 years, said the program emphasized communicating effectively and “learning to do that without wearing your emotions on your sleeve.”
To support closeness among participants, the upcoming program will be limited to 12 couples. Applications are open to couples seeking help to avoid divorce or separation, to those who describe their marriages as either “strong” or “mediocre” and to engaged couples.
“You don’t have to be having problems,” Lovett said. “Even if you have a good marriage, you can benefit. It’s designed to educate people to enhance their relationships.”
After a pre-session from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 8, during which participants will receive a course introduction and pick up their instructional materials, all other sessions will be Wednesdays from 7-9:30 p.m. Regular class sessions will begin Sept. 15 and continue through Nov. 3.
Cost for course materials is $150. Financial assistance may be available.
