Pictured with their medals from the regional qualifiers meet are nine of the 11 Blue Blazes who recently competed at the 25th annual Games of Texas in Waco. The Blue Blazes showed they can shine on the state’s largest stage.

Competing at the Games of Texas in Waco, three members from the Lampasas summer track program placed in the top 10 at the 25th annual track meet.

Pitted against athletes from across the state, Faith Veroneau, Cabri Carpenter and Presli Peters each produced a ninth-place showing in their respective events.

Veroneau posted a 30-5 triple jump inside the Hart Patterson Stadium on the Baylor campus, while Peters finished less than one second shy of advancing to the finals in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.02. Both were in the 14 and under age group.

In the 16 and under division, Cabri Carpenter added more than a foot of distance to her shot put heave by recording a throw of 30-9 to place ninth. At the regional qualifying meet, her distance was 29-4.

Unfortunately, the dual-event athlete was unable to record a distance in the discus and did not place.

Kelli Carpenter, competing in the 14 and under group, also qualified for the discus and shot put but just missed a top-10 showing in each event.

In the discus, a throw of 73-9 earned her 11th, while her 30-4 1/2 in the shot put placed her 12th overall.

Mason Morris was the lone Lampasas boy to compete in two events at the Games of Texas. In the triple jump, Morris’ leap of 28-9 3/4 was good enough for 20th place in the 14 and under division. His time of 19.65 in the 110 hurdles, however, was not fast enough to qualify for the finals as he placed 15th in the preliminaries.

Brynn Wittenburg finished 16th in the 12 and under shot put with a throw of 21-0 3/4.

The finish was matched by Izaiah Andrade in the 10 and under 1,600. After posting a qualifying time of 6:36, the runner shaved nine seconds off his pace and finished the race in 6:27.

The Blue Blazes produced four competitors in the 800. In the eight and under age group, Abigail Martin placed 17th (3:19.55), and Isabella Marquez was 23rd (3:39.18).

Their teammates Emili Andrade and Reahona Honaker, in the 10 and under division, crossed the finish line consecutively to place 23rd and 24th, respectively. Andrade’s time of 3:08.75 was a little over three seconds quicker than her qualifying time, while Honaker finished the 800 in 3:11.82.
