Veterans’ sacrifices cannot be repaid
County Auditor Jack Clark, in the Aug. 3 paper, made a completely unfair and discriminatory statement. He referred to the tax break 100 percent disabled veteran homeowners receive in a very negative way.
It is not only veterans who receive a tax break; others who are disabled or are over 65 also receive a tax break. Yet these were not even referred to in his comment. Auditor Jack Clark chose to pick on disabled veterans. What will it take for county officials to acknowledge the hardships and separation that many veterans have endured for our freedom?
These sacrifices are the foundation of our freedom. Honor should be given to the veterans who have been away from their home and family, and are thrust into a war zone. They should not be treated as though they are receiving something for nothing. What these honorable men and women receive is not nearly equivalent to what they have given.
The county auditor needs to understand that for many veterans and their families, the sacrifice given freely can never be repaid.
