Guest speakers scheduled at ag clinic
Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Lampasas, Burnet and Llano counties are offering the annual Central Texas Cow/Calf Clinic Aug. 17 at the Lampasas County Farm Bureau Building (1793 U.S. Hwy. 281 North) in Lampasas.
Registration begins at 8:30 am, with the program starting at 9 a.m.
Highlighting this year’s program is Judon Fambrough, senior lecturer specializing in real estate law for Texas A&M University’s Real Estate Center, speaking on landowner rights and specifically negotiating transmission line easements.
“With the proposed CREZ (Competitive Renewable Energy Zones) transmission lines coming through all three counties, ease- ments and landowner rights are a hot topic for our area ranchers and landowners,” said a clinic representative.
Fambrough’s presentation will focus on what landowners should do when the right-of-way agent comes knocking on their door, said Jason Byrd, AgriLife Extension agent in Lampasas County.
Also on the agenda is Dr. Rich Machen, Extension livestock specialist. He will discuss the present cattle industry and whether or not some producers should “stay in.”
Bill Thompson, Extension economist, will give a presentation on “What cattle buyers are looking for in 2010,” as well as a market update.
Rounding out the program will be Byrd, who will discuss mineral supplementation needs for beef cattle.
Two Department of Agriculture general continuing education units will be offered for those with a pesticide applicator’s license.
Cost to attend the clinic is $10 per person, which includes refreshments, a catered lunch and any printed materials.
