Blue Blazes bound for Waco

In two weeks, the Blue Blazes will invade Waco.
The Lampasas summer track program put on a show at the Games of Texas regional qualifying meet held in Temple last weekend by advancing all 11 of its competitors.
In total, the Blue Blazes will take part in 14 events at the 25th annual competition scheduled for Aug. 5-8 at the Hart-Patterson Track and Field Complex on the Baylor University campus.
Cabri Carpenter was one of just three Blue Blazes to advance in two events. Competing in the 16 and under division, she moved on thanks to a shot put throw of 29-4 and a discus throw of 86-2.
The other dual-event qualifiers came from the 14 and under division as Kelli Carpenter (37-6 shot put and 71-2 discus) and Mason Morris (31-7 triple jump and 18.02 110-meter hurdles) both advanced.
Faith Veroneau and Presli Peters, both in the 14 and under age group, moved on in the triple jump and 100 hurdles, respectively. Veroneau recorded a distance of 30-5, and Peters ran her event in a time of 17.55 at the regional qualifying meet.
Brynn Wittenburg was Lampasas’ lone competitor in the 12 and under division where she used a 21 3/4 shot put throw to reach Waco.
Three Lampasas speedsters in the 10 and under group qualified. Reahona Honaker (3:07) and Emili Andrade (3:12) both raced in the 800, while Izaiah Andrade posted a time of 6:36 in the 1,600.
Abby Martin and Isabella Marquez round out the Wacobound Blue Blazes. Each will compete in the eight and under 800 thanks to near identical times at the qualifying meet. Martin completed the event in 3:16 with Marquez crossing the finish line two seconds later.
