Mr. Turner
Gale Dwayne Turner, 78, of Lake Coleman died July 6, 2010, at Willow Hill Assisted Living in Andrews.
Funeral services were July 9 at Community Baptist Church in Coleman with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating, assisted by the Rev. Alan Speed.
Masonic graveside services followed at Coleman City Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home of Coleman.
Mr. Turner was born April 24, 1932, in Bell County, the son of Loyd and Ruby Byrd Turner.
He grew up in and attended school in Lampasas, and graduated from Sul Ross University in Alpine.
Mr. Turner served in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves.
On June 4, 1953, he married Barbara Wright.
Mr. Turner was a longtime teacher and coach, beginning his career in Coleman in 1954, and continuing there until 1961.
From 1961 to 1970, he coached in Kermit and then in Rankin from 1970 to 1988. In 1988, he and his wife retired to Lake Coleman, and lived there until 2009, when they moved to Andrews.
Mr. Turner was a lifetime member of TSTA and THSCA, and was a 40-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Community Baptist Church in Coleman.
Survivors include his wife of Lake Coleman; one daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Greg Moore of Andrews; two sons and daughtersin law, Clarke and Sandy Turner of Big Lake, and Terry and Linda Turner of Abilene; 11 grandchildren, Jill and husband Eric Willis, Justin Mathews, Jessie and husband Matthew Pitcock, Jalyn and husband Dustin Sherrill, Matthew Moore, Lyndsi McNaughton, Seth Moore, Adrian Turner, Clint and wife Amy Turner, Brad Turner and Bailey Turner; 11 great-grandchildren, Hayley, Garrett, Taryn, Savannah, Darby, Tatum, Bentley, Lincoln, Landry, Hannah and Aberdine; and a nephew and niece.
