Lometa FFA rodeo, parade, reunion set

Last year’s annual Lometa FFA Rodeo and Parade garnered a huge response, due to dedicated FFA youth and local communities, said event organizers.

After a nine-year hiatus, more than 50 entries participated, consisting of numerous businesses and organizations.

This year’s rodeo parade is July 24 beginning at 11 a.m. Participants should line up at the Lometa School on Main Street just after 9 a.m.

More categories for entry are open this year, and recognition will be given to entries in first, second and third places.

This year’s theme is based on the Olympics, “Let’s go for the gold Olympics Texas Style.” Winter and summer events will be included, and anyone who enjoys either season’s events is encouraged to wear jeans and enter a float, bicycle, vehicle, motorcycle, horse or an entry of their own creation.

Kids and pets also are invited to enter. A prize will be awarded to the best dressed pet and owner.

To take part in the parade or for more information, phone Terri Harris at 752-3800 or Lisa VanNatta at 752-8996.

Shortly after the parade, Lometa will hold an all-school reunion in the school’s cafeteria for anyone who has attended Lometa Independent School District.

Each class is responsible for bringing their snack, sandwiches and finger foods. Cold drinks will be sold.

A barbecue supper and music will follow the reunion at 4:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs to Lometa Regional Park to continue to visit with classmates.

Organizers note details about an added attraction will be announced soon.
