Complaints prompt review of salvage yard permits

County attorney Larry Allison is reviewing a salvage yard permit that two county property owners believe was improperly issued.

The Lampasas County Commissioners Court recently discussed a salvage yard owned by Charles Drayton on County Road 3210. Lea and Kevin Kenyon, Drayton’s neighbors, asked Allison to review Drayton’s permit, as the Kenyons said salvage yards are prohibited in the platted subdivision where Drayton’s property is located.

Drayton told the court he has fenced his 0.56-acre salvage yard, as required by his permit. Drayton also said he only works on automobiles at the site as a hobby and does not sell vehicles or parts.

Commissioners, some of whom voiced concerns about pollutants from vehicles on Drayton’s property leaking into the nearby Lampasas River, plan to consider the item at an upcoming meeting after Allison has had time to investigate the matter.

Also at their recent meeting, commissioners voted to make July 5 a county holiday. County offices will be open July 2, which originally had been planned as a county holiday.
