Five county girls vying for rodeo queen crown, scholarship

The Lampasas Riata Roundup Queen’s Contest has five entrants this year, with the 2010 queen to earn a college scholarship, a tiara and a sash.
Contestants are judged on riding ability, personality, poise and interview skills.
Fifteen-year-old Monica Bridges is the daughter of Lewis and Ronda Bridges.
She will be a sophomore at Lometa High School in the fall.
Monica enjoys showing goats, riding horses, track, basketball, hunting, Lometa Alpha Rangers, FFA, horse judging and 4-H.
The daughter of Dusty and Jennifer Barrington, Kalyn Hayes- Barrington, 16, will be a junior at Lampasas High School.
She enjoys reading, spending time with her horses, team roping, barrel racing and volleyball. She participates in horse judging and is on the radio team, senior chapter conducting team and speech and debate team. Kalyn is the FFA vice president.

She also takes part in acting and prose interpretation.
Samantha Phillips, 14, will be a sophomore at Lometa High School in the fall. She is the daughter of Barbara Phillips, Dale Postel and the late Rick Phillips.
Samantha enjoys cheerleading, roping, barrel racing, horseback riding and team penning.
Fourteen-year-old Sierra Rash is the daughter of Jeff and Tracy Rash. She will be a freshman at Lampasas High School in the fall.
Sierra enjoys volleyball, basketball and track, where she holds both the seventh- and eighth-grade pole vaulting records.
She also is a certified farrier and the youngest female to graduate from the Texas Horseshoeing School in Scurry at 13 years of age.
Sierra enjoys taking care of numerous animals and training her horses. She hopes to attend Texas A&M University and become an equine veterinarian.

Leah Claire Staley
is the 14- year-old daughter of Leticia Staley. She is homeschooled and will be a ninth-grader in the fall.
Leah's hobbies include cooking, artwork, barrel racing, ranch work and swimming. She has a job riding and exercising horses for individuals.
