Mr. Maples
Funeral services for Walter Bennett Maples, 81, of Copperas Cove are at 10:30 a.m. June 15, 2010, at Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove with the Rev. Stephen Schmidt to officiate.
Interment will follow in the Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
Mr. Maples died June 12 at his residence.
He was born July 4, 1928, to Anderson B. and Hattie M. Maples in Coleman County, Texas.
He graduated from Melvin High School with the Class of 1945 and later attended Texas Tech University.
From 1950-1952 Mr. Maples served in the 2nd Armored Division of the U.S. Army. He was a Korean War veteran.
On July 23, 1953, Mr. Maples married Davie Lee Glazener in Killeen.
In 1961 the couple moved to Copperas Cove, and Mr. Maples began working for and became a partner in Connell Chevrolet Copperas Cove, where he remained until his retirement in 1987.
Mr. Maples was a member of Mt. Hiram Lodge 595 in Copperas Cove and the Central Texas Council of Governments. He was a past president of the Copperas Cove Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club. He served 39 years on the Coryell Memorial Hospital board.
He is survived by his wife of Copperas Cove; three sons, W.B. Maples and wife Lori of Copperas Cove, Clifford Maples and wife Beth of Kempner, and John Maples and wife Stacie of Kempner; a brother, Garland A. Maples of Lubbock; seven grandchildren, Thad Maples, Sheena Schmucker, Lauren Maples, Jennifer Maples, Cheyenne Maples, Sarah Maples and Spencer Maples; and one great-grandson, Luke Schmucker.
Serving as pallbearers are David Smith, Allen Lyles, Ashby Melton, Edward Barbee, Spencer Maples, Thad Maples and Phillip Urofsky.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove.
