Rusty Erwin was named the Lady Badgers’ new head softball coach at the LISD school board meeting Monday evening.

Erwin brings plenty of experience to the team after spending the last seven years of his coaching career at Lorena. His squad fell in a three-game area round series to Cathage in the 2010 Class 3A playoffs.

The Batgirls 16-U fastpitch softball organization will hold open tryouts for the late summer and upcoming fall/ winter seasons Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lampasas Middle School softball field.

All positions are open.

Depending on the turnout, a second tryout might be scheduled. In case of inclement weather, the tryouts will be rescheduled.

The Batgirls are also looking for volunteers interested in serving as assistant coaches. While experience with softball is helpful, it is not necessary.
