After 22 years, search continues for Elizabeth Campbell

Miss Campbell disappeared on April 25, 1988, about a month before her 21st birthday. Police reports note she got into a fight with her boyfriend and used a pay phone around midnight at a Copperas Cove 7-11 convenience store off U.S. Highway 190.

She was wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a faded yellow jacket. In addition, the work smock from the store where she worked was draped over her arm. Miss Campbell also carried a maroon purse.

Family members described Miss Campbell’s complexion as light. At the time of her disappearance, she stood about 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighed about 100-105 pounds.

In 1992, the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department in Ozona located Miss Campbell’s purse in a property room at the department. The purse, which did not appear to have been exposed to the elements, contained Miss Campbell’s Social Security card and military ID, her sister Barbara Campbell said. How the purse reached Ozona and how long it had been there remain unknown.

Since Miss Campbell’s disappearance in 1988, her parents, Sam Soon and Tom Campbell, have devoted much of their time and financial resources in repeated attempts to located their missing daughter. Family members frequently post information about Elizabeth Campbell on the Internet. Miss Campbell’s case has been mentioned on the television show “Unsolved Mysteries,” her sister said.

The Campbells moved from Lampasas to Killeen in 1993, and they still follow any leads that come their way -- although clues have emerged less frequently as time has passed.

The family does not intend to give up hope, however. Somewhere, they believe, is someone who knows what happened to their daughter. They continue to wait -- and to hope a resolution will be forthcoming.
