Wildflowers

We drove U.S. Highway 281 through Lampasas County last weekend and were astonished at the wildflowers blooming profusely, especially between Lampasas and Adamsville. Yes, the bluebonnets are gone for this year, but there are so many more flowers, especially standing cypress. This is a single-stalk plant growing three to five feet in height with orange-red blossoms scattered up and down the stalk, each blossom extending two inches or so from the stalk. We were delighted to see several clusters, as well as singles scattered here and there.

Conditions are apparently perfect for wildflowers this year because we have seen an abundance from March to the present. Many are now hidden by grass, which also grows profusely, but a few steps from a car rewards us with beautiful color and shapes.
