PHOTO BY CLAY WHITTINGTON A one-vehicle rollover last week on U.S. Highway 281, 10 miles north of Burnet, was blamed on a rear tire that reportedly came off, the Texas Highway Patrol said.

The accident occurred May 20 at 9:10 a.m., 1.4 miles south of Burnet County Road 2340, officials said. Trooper David Rodriguez of Georgetown investigated the accident, according to Highway Patrol Secretary Renate Jones in Lampasas.

Rodriguez gave the following account.

Frances Paul Elliot of Horseshoe Bay was driving a northbound 2005 Toyota Avalon.

Witnesses traveling directly behind the Toyota said the Avalon’s back left tire came off, causing the driver to overcorrect to the right and go off the roadway.

The Toyota rolled approximately three times and came to rest upright facing southwest, just short of a guardrail.

Elliot was transported to Round Rock Seton Hospital. The driver was wearing a safety belt at the time of the accident.
