Algerita, also called algarita, agrito or chaparrral berry, is a common evergreen holly-like shrub found
on Central Texas rangelands. This bush, like most in the area, produced a big crop of red berries this
year. Many say the berries make the best jelly in the state, however gathering the small, red fruit from
among the sharp-pointed leaves can be discouraging.
