A recent public hearing on the annexation efforts at the south and west ends of town drew no comments from Lampasas residents.

City officials are continuing with annexation of about 330 acres that will extend the Lampasas city limits approximately one mile west. Annexation near the new city sports complex includes portions of Dana Drive and Antelope Lane, as well as properties on both sides of Farm-to-Market Road 580 West.

In addition, the annexation of 141 acres near Lampasas High School will extend the city limits about 4,500 feet to the south along U.S. Highway 281. On the west side of the highway, properties to be incorporated into the city include the high school and Grace Fellowship. Most land to be annexed on the east side of U.S. 281 is highway right of way.

A second public hearing about the annexations is scheduled for Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, behind City Hall on East Third Street.

The Lampasas City Council will vote June 14 on the first reading of an annexation ordinance for the two areas. Second reading of the ordinance is scheduled for June 28.

In a related matter, the City Council at its meeting last week approved 15-year non-annexation agree- ments with Ron and Jean Farr, and Gary and Barbara Kindred, for agriculturally exempt land along FM 580 West. Although the agreements exclude those properties from annexation for 15 years, they also limit development of the land.

Also at the recent meeting, the council:

• authorized the transfer of as much as $50,000 from a special city fund to the Lampasas County Higher Education Center Foundation. The funds will help pay for an LCHEC chief operations officer, whose hiring will be announced officially next week.

• voted to engage Singleton, Clark & Co. for $21,610 to perform the city’s 2010 annual financial audit.

• voted to let Lampasas Police Chief Tim Angermann sell two 2002 Ford Crown Victoria patrol cars on the govdeals.com auction site. The vehicles, which each have at least 100,000 miles, will be replaced by newer patrol cars

• approved a publicity and tourism agreement with the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce. The agreement specifies conditions for the use of hotel/motel tax revenues.

• appointed Jerry Bunting and reappointed Dennis Bolding to the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals.

Council will meet Monday at 7 p.m.
