The district tournament cannot arrive soon enough for Michael Molinar.

After his Lampasas Middle School boys’ golf team fell a mere two strokes short of tying the host Cavaliers for the Hudson Bend/ Lake Travis tournament championship in Austin, the head coach is hungry to prove a point.

“I still remain confident my boys are going to win district,” Molinar said. “We just have to fine-tune a couple of things, but I can’t wait until Monday.”

The district tournament will be held in Marble Falls, where Molinar hopes to avoid the strong winds that blew during the team’s trip to Austin Tuesday.

Gusty conditions made it difficult to navigate the Live Oak Golf Course, but the Badgers managed to post a combined score of 175.

Trent Holloman and Blake January led the way for Lampasas, shooting identical scores of 42. Holloman placed second overall because of a three-way tiebreaker, and January finished fourth.

Logan Irvin (45) and Blake Graham (46) were within one stroke of each other, while Dylan Singleton shot a 50.

According to Molinar, Graham’s 12-foot birdie putt on hole No. 18 was one of the top individual highlights of the round.

The LMS Lady Badgers also had a strong showing in Austin, as Lauren Beckwith won the tournament championship and helped her team capture a secondplace finish.

Led by Beckwith’s field-best 45, Lampasas shot a team total of 225. Morgan Rogers followed with a 51, and Kena Cox recorded a 59. Jordan Cummings rounded out the team’s scoring with a 70.

“This was the longest course we have played all year, but the girls pulled through and had a solid finish,” Lady Badgers head coach Amanda Forsythe said.

The girls’ district championship also will be up for grabs at the Meadowlakes Country Club in Marble Falls Monday.
