Naruna Cemetery
An open letter to descendants of people buried at the Naruna Cemetery:
The Naruna Cemetery Association met Sunday afternoon, May 2, at 4 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the church. There were five people present. I do apologize for the mixup on the radio and in the Radiogram at the beginning of the week, and I apologize to those who went out there on Saturday instead of Sunday. The meeting is always the first Sunday in May.
Should you have been there Sunday? Yes, if you have a relative buried out there and are interested in seeing the cemetery kept nice. You may have noticed there have been several rains this spring, and that means the grass grows more, so it has to be mowed more often. Would you like that job? In years past, families conscientiously maintained their own family plots, but they do not do that any more.
I am the secretary-treasurer and have been for more years than I want to think. I try to keep a record of those who send maintenance money and am sorry to say only 18 families did that between the meetings in 2009 and 2010. I realize many family representatives live out of town, but more than many do not. Half of those I received came from out of town.
One of the members present Sunday wondered if people knew they were supposed to be paying an annual fee, so I decided to take this way of reminding those who do know and informing those who do not know. Many people compliment the cemetery and think it is pretty and welcoming, but it would not be if the weeds and grass were allowed to take over the place.
My address is 701 S. Willis St., Lampasas, TX 76550 if you would like to send a check. Thank you.
June Davis
