Lady Badgers receive automatic area berth
The Lady Badgers were hoping to breeze past their bi-district opponent, but they never expected it would be this easy.
Lampasas (10-0 District 25-4A) was automatically declared bidistrict champion over the weekend and advanced to the area round of the playoffs after the fourth-place District 26-4A team Austin Eastside Memorial was forced to forfeit its season due to academic issues.
Area deadline is May 8, but the Lady Badgers will not play until May 5, at the earliest, because teams have until May 4 to complete the bi-district round.
Annual TAKS testing prevents Lampasas from taking part in any warm-up games before Friday. The team does not have any opponents lined up, but head coach Chris Munoz is working on setting up a game for this weekend.
The Lady Badgers managed to get some playoff preparation in over the weekend, however, as they traveled to Bryan High School where they defeated Magnolia 3-0.
Lampasas pitcher Taylor Holloman picked up the victory, and Kady Crow took over in the seventh inning to close out the contest.
The two pitchers combined for five strikeouts and gave up a total of five hits.
Offensively, Marisa Bogart went two for three with a double, while Tealey Farquhar (triple), Hadley Brown (RBI) and Kat Strickland (RBI) each went one for three at the plate. Junior Jennifer Herron finished the game one for two.
