LHS students place in FCCLA contest

Cara Beth Nichols, left, and Macie Moses represented LHS at the Region III FCCLA Conference. Cara Beth Nichols, a Lampasas High School sophomore, has been elected as FCCLA Region III vice president of recreation.

She will carry out her duties at the Region III Fall Leadership Workshop and 2011 Region III FCCLA Conference.

Cara will demonstrate leadership skills and motivate over 400 chapters in the region with team leadership skills, helping with the banner contest, LEO and STAR Events competitions.

The LHS student is president of the Lampasas FCCLA. She helped participate in the national FCCLA project “STOP! The Violence” by introducing guest speaker Sgt. Bill Davis, who talked to local students about teen violence and their responsibilities.

Cara also serves as lieutenant of the Flames, Student Council class representative, vice president of SADD and is active in UIL speech and debate.

Cara Beth Nichols was named FCCLA vice president of recreation. In the community, Cara is involved in XFX Spirit Club and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church youth group.

She is the daughter of Richard and Janna Hammett, and the granddaughter of Bennie and Gary Martin, all of Lampasas.

In other FCCLA events, Cara and Macie Moses represented LHS at the Region III FCCLA Conference where they placed in the Leadership Enhancement Opportunities Contest.

Cara earned a gold medal for parliamentary procedure, and Macie received silver for table etiquette.

In addition, Cara was recognized for completing the five steps in the Power of One Degree Plan, and Macie was recognized for completing the first step in the program.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a memberrun organization and is the lone career and technical in-school student organization with family as its central focus.

Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers and communities.

FCCLA has nearly 220,000 members in more than 6,500 chapters.
