Cemetery association slates clean-up day
Travis Herring, left, president of the Lometa Cemetery Association, presents a certificate of appreciation to Bob Dyer for more than 35 years of service to the association. The Lometa Cemetery Association Board met recently to review progress made during the past two years and to plan future improvements.
The appearance of the Lometa Cemetery grounds was a primary concern of board members, and they plan a clean-up day with relatives and friends on May 1 at 9 a.m.
Travis Herring, association president, encouraged community members interested in helping with the grounds -- especially those with family members buried there -- to bring lawnmowers, rakes, hedge clippers and other gardening items.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Herring presented Bob Dyer a certificate to recognize Dyer’s 35- plus years of service to the association.
Pat Ivey was commended for her administrative skills she used to recover and organize records left unexpectedly by the previous secretary/ treasurer.
Jean Sargent and Dorothy Derwin also received certificates of appreciation for their support and assistance to Mrs. Ivey in the ongoing efforts to update cemetery records.
Anyone who owns a plot at the cemetery or who has knowledge of the whereabouts of relatives of those buried at the cemetery is asked to send information to the Lometa Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 283, Lometa, TX 76853.
To purchase a cemetery lot, phone Herring or write to the cemetery address.
