The Badgers won four individual district titles to highlight a group of nine athletes who qualified to compete in 13 different events at the Region IV-4A meet May 3-4 in San Antonio.
While the program had plenty of impressive singular performances, neither varsity team cracked the top three.
The Badgers placed fourth overall with 92 points, while the Lady Badgers finished fifth as a team, posting 62 points.
After the first day of competition, the Badgers were sitting in first place, holding a two-point lead over Hutto, 58-56.
The second day, however, was not as kind to Lampasas, as Hendrickson (164 pts.) and Hutto (152 pts.) ran away from the field to place first and second, respectively. Killeen finished third with 102.5 points.
In all, five Badgers earned a position at the regional meet, including Brode DuBose (discus), Marcus Kehoe (pole vault), Secody Howard (high jump) and Aaron Reyna (long jump) who each won the district championship in their event.
Reyna, a senior, also qualified for regionals with a third-place showing in the 110-meter hurdles and a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles.
In addition to being named an alternate in the 110 hurdles, Zach Adams qualified in the high jump and pole vault.
“I am really proud of the Badgers,” boys’ head coach Jimmy Randolph said.
Andrea White led the Lady Badgers with two regionalqualifying performances. The senior placed second in the shot put and third in the discus.
Three other Lady Badgers advanced to regionals with thirdp lace showings. Amber Castle (pole vault), Amy Martinez (3,200) and Tealey Farquhar (100 hurdles) each made the cut, while Karalyn Capps (100 hurdles), Ashley Moore (400) and Lauren Barlow (discus) were named alternates in their events.
As a team, Lampasas was 17 points behind fourthplace Hutto. Killeen (162 pts), Lake Travis (151 pts.) and Hendrickson (145.5 pts.) claimed the top three spots.
All the qualifiers are scheduled to compete at the regional qualifiers’ track meet Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Brownwood.
