Mrs. Roberts
Former Kempner resident Cherrie Ann Roberts, 77, died April 14, 2010, in Bedford.
Funeral services were April 17 at First United Methodist Church in Lampasas with the Rev. George Lumpkin officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. Roberts was born Jan. 31, 1933, in Clarksville, to Burford Tucker and Marie Partin Smith.
She graduated from Denison High School in 1950, and then was a summa cum laude graduate with a degree in education in 1954 from the former Southwest State Teachers College in San Marcos.
She married John Edward Roberts on Aug. 11, 1956, at First United Methodist Church in Kenedy. They were married 47 years until his death.
Mrs. Roberts taught school for 35 years in many Texas districts including Odessa, Kenedy and Alice, ending her career at Martin Walker Elementary School in Copperas Cove.
During her teaching career, she was active in the Texas State Teachers Association and National Education Association. At her retirement, Mrs. Roberts became active in the Lampasas County Retired Teachers Association.
She and her husband lived in Kempner. They were members of First United Methodist Church in Lampasas where Mrs. Roberts was active in Sunday School, volunteering in the church office, Vacation Bible School and United Methodist Women.
Survivors include a daughter, Johnna Smith and husband, Bob, of Grapevine; a son, Ben Roberts and wife, Ingrid, of Gothenburg, Sweden; a sister, Donna Guckian; a brother, David Smith and wife, Gloria; four grandchildren, Robert Smith, Ann Marie Smith, Sven Ostergren-Roberts and Bruno Ostergren-Roberts; and a number of nieces and nephews.
