Lampasas leaped out to an eightrun lead at Hendrickson Friday evening, but saw their advantage whittled down to just three runs before holding on for a 9-6 win to remain unbeaten in District 25-4A.
After defeating all but one of their six district opponents by double digits, and winning by at least seven runs in each of their last seven games, the Lady Badgers finally experienced and withstood the pressure of facing a rallying team for the first time in a long time.
“These girls have been playing well and have responded to all situations,” Lampasas head coach Chris Munoz said. “I am very proud of them.”
Nine players recorded hits for Lampasas during its eighthconsecutive victory, and the team posted eight runs in the first inning.
But in the third inning, the Lady Hawks’ bats came alive as Hendrickson (9-17, 3-4 district) posted its first run of the game. In the following two innings, the Lady Hawks tacked on three more runs to trim Lampasas’ lead to four runs, 8-4, midway through the fifth.
The Lady Badgers added another run in the bottom of the inning to increase its cushion to five runs, but Hendrickson responded with two more runs in the sixth.
With the score remaining 9-6 heading into the seventh inning, junior Taylor Holloman went to the mound to relieve sophomore Kady Crow and secured the victory.
Holloman also produced at the plate by going two of three with a double and two RBIs. Sophomore Tealey Farquhar finished the game with a triple, an RBI and a stolen base as Lampasas improved to 18-8 overall.
