Longtime funeral home owner dies
Larry D. Sheppard Funeral services for Larry Dow Sheppard, 64, are April 13, 2010, at Sheppard Chapel of Memories at Sheppard Funeral Home in Copperas Cove with Pastors Wayne Sage and Thomas Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas with Pastor Jack Riley officiating.
Mr. Sheppard died April 9 at a Killeen hospital.
He was born March 12, 1946, in San Saba, to B.D. and Eddie Cleo Munsell Sheppard.
Mr. Sheppard married Phyllis Marie Basham at St. Paul Methodist Church in Breckenridge on Feb. 18, 1967.
He was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and owned and operated several funeral homes for 42 years in West and Central Texas, including Memorial Funeral Home of Lampasas.
Mr. Sheppard was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. He had served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in San Saba.
He was a former Copperas Cove city councilman and was a member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife of Copperas Cove; two sons, Cody D. Sheppard and Jolene Alexander of Lometa, and Bradley D. Sheppard and wife, Holly, of Temple; two grandchildren, Kenneth Jacob Sheppard and Kristen Deann Sheppard, both of San Saba; two brothers and their wives, Charles R. and Mary Sheppard of Crane, and B.D. and Carolyn Sheppard Jr. of Abilene; a brother-in-law, Cody Phillip Basham and wife, Zandra, of Lone Tree, Colo.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Sheppard was preceded in death by his parents and by a niece.
Pallbearers are Danny Wayne Shaw, Dwayne Shaw, Larry Shivener, Hal Harton, Robby Weatherby and Jay Manning.
Honorary pallbearers include Tommy Harkey, Travis Herring, Mike Poe, Buster Wells and Jack Dickison.
