LHS freshman track has strong showing at district invitational
The Badgers finished second, and the Lady Badgers won the District 25-4A Freshman Invitational held at Marble Falls Tuesday.
Lampasas’ boys scored 160 points by recording 16 top-three finishes, including three gold medals, but fell short of Lake Travis’ championship-winning performance of 225 points.
Riley Tedford (3,200-meter run, 12:43.37), Cody Crofoot (discus, 118-1) and Marcus Kehoe (pole vault, 12-6) each won their events.
“I was very proud of these young Badgers,” Lampasas boys head coach Jimmy Randolph said. “Our future looks bright in track and field.”
The Lady Badgers only collected one first-place finish, but it was more than enough as the team won the meet championship by 23 points. Long jumper Julie Mize was the lone gold-medal winner.
“Thanks to some last-minute recruiting from other sports by coach Andrea Conley, we were able to get much-needed points and defeat Lake Travis and Marble Falls -- the only other teams that came to the meet,” Lady Badgers’ head coach Trent Lancaster said.
