Baylor lecturer to speak Monday
Maxey Parrish Maxey Parrish will be the guest speaker at Monday’s Lampasas High School Honor Banquet.
Parrish spoke at the banquet several years ago, and a number of audience members requested he make a return appearance, said an event organizer.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism/ public relations and a master of science in education in sports administration, both from Baylor University.
Parrish has been a senior lecturer at the Baylor University department of journalism since August 2001. There, he teaches general news, public relations and media writing undergraduate courses.
He also serves as an adviser on degree plans and career objectives for a portion of the student body.
In addition, Parrish leads devotionals and Bible studies for various student groups, and recruits high school seniors interested in attending the Waco campus.
His past employment includes director of league and NCAA relations in Seattle, Wash., and director of Internet operations and sports information director for Baylor’s athletic department.
Parrish is on the Board of Directors of Brazos Valley Broadcasting and is Web editor for Bowl Championship Series, where he edits content and writes correspondence for national collegiate football championships.
He also has lectured and been a featured speaker at New Haven School in Utah, for the Baylor new faculty orientation in 2005, and Texas Baptist Media Forum in 2003 and 2008.
Parrish has earned numerous awards including Baylor Faculty Partner Award, Carr P. Collins Outstanding Professor, Golden Key International Honour Society, Light Your World Honor Profes- sor, Best in the Nation, writing, Drake Relays Media Award and a Press Box Merit Award.
He holds membership in the Public Relations Society of America, College Sports Information Directors of America, Football Writers Association of America, U.S. Basketball Writers Association and Texas Sports Writers Association.
Parrish has volunteered his time as a faculty sponsor for Kappa Chi Alpha sorority, and has led various student mission trips to a number of places including Nicaragua, South Africa, Rwanda, Australia, Armenia and Ukraine.
