LHS track wraps up regular season at Marble Falls
The next time the Badgers are in Marble Falls, they hope to be standing just one step higher.
In the final meet before the district competition, Lampasas’ varsity boys’ track team finished second at the Marble Falls Mustang Relays last Wednesday.
In less than two weeks, the Badgers and Lady Badgers will return to Marble Falls for the twoday District 25-4A meet, which begins April 15.
The Badgers (117 pts.) fell nine points shy of tying Fredericksburg, which earned the championship with 126 points.
Lampasas’ boys won six events and added five more top-four finishes to narrowly edge out district rival and host school Marble Falls by one point for second place. Lake Travis recorded 109 points to place fourth overall.
In field events, senior Brode DuBose continued his impressive season by winning the discus (159- 11) and placing second in the shot put (49-8 1/2).
In addition to winning the long jump with a leap of 20-11, Aaron Reyna placed third in the triple jump (40-7).
Reyna also collected three gold medals on the track by winning the 110-meter hurdles (14.82), 300 hurdles (40.38) and the 4x100 relay where he joined Edward Hall, Justin Maldonado and Tanner Swinford to post a first-place time of 43.36.
Sophomore Brandon Scott replaced Reyna in the 4x200 relay and helped the team win gold with a time of 1:32.85.
The 4x400 relay team of Scott, Swinford, Jeff Arevalo and Javier Renteria finished third (3:37.07), while Hall ran the 100 in 11.34 to place fourth.
In other events, Secody Howard (5-10) and Zach Adams (5-8) finished third and fifth, respectively, in the high jump. Adams also took fifth in the pole vault (11-6).
The varsity Lady Badgers placed third at the Mustang Relays with 74 points.
Senior Andrea White produced the team’s lone gold medal by winning the shot put with a throw of 35-10 ½. Sophomore Amber Castle posted a personal best of 8-0 in the pole vault to place fourth.
In all, the Lady Badgers finished nine events in the top four.
All three relay teams placed third. The team of Karalyn Capps, Ashlyn Henry, Ashley Summers and Ashley Moore completed the 4x100 in 53.17, while Julie Mize, Henry, Summers and Taylor Brooks ran the 4x200 in 1:55.60.
Sophomore Hailey Morrison joined Henry, Summers and Moore to place third in the 4x400 with a time of 4:28.12.
Morrison finished second in the high jump by clearing 4-10.
Lauren Barlow (discus, 102), Capps (100 hurdles, 16.39), and Moore (400, 1:02.46) all placed fourth in their events.
Fredericksburg won the meet with 222 points, followed by Lake Travis (141).

The Lady Badgers’ junior varsity team placed fourth at the Mustang Relays with 56 points.
Highlights of the day included Tealey Farquhar’s first-place performance in the 100 hurdles (16.68) and Emily Demmell’s second-place finish in the shot put. The senior recorded a throw of 29- 5 3/4.
Fredericksburg won with 201 points.
The Badgers’ junior varsity team finished sixth overall.
Tyler Perkins and Kleg Kennedy tied for second place in the high jump with leaps of 5-6.
All three Badger JV relay teams came in third.
