John Gail Edwards, 87, of Lampasas died April 1, 2010, at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas.
Funeral services were April 3 at Sneed Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Paul Kenley officiating. Burial with Masonic rites followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Edwards was born Dec. 12, 1922, in Coryell County, the son of John Walker and Virginia Elvina Jackson Edwards.
He attended Antelope School in Coryell County and finished in Gatesville.
Mr. Edwards married Alta Mae Cox on July 13, 1947, in Burnet County.
He was an iron worker, having worked in many different places, mostly in Texas, on large construction projects. Later, he ranched in the area for many years.
Mr. Edwards had lived in the area for the last 68 years. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Lampasas and Saratoga, Lometa and Lake Victor Masonic Lodges.
He also was a Scottish Rite 32nd Degree Mason and a past master and past district deputy grand master.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; two sons and their wives, Douglas and Charlotte Edwards and Mickey and Jani Edwards, all of Lampasas; one daughter and her husband, Gaila and Gary Barnard of Lampasas; two sisters, Hope Turner of Pasadena, and Mary Groves of Lampasas; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Home for Aged Masons, Scottish Rite Hospital or to the charity of one’s choice.
