Sophomore Tealey Farquhar was tagged out on this dive to home plate in the second inning, but it did not slow down the Lady Badgers who scored eight runs in the fifth inning to win by a dozen, 14-2. After blowing out their last three opponents by a combined score of 36-1, the Lady Badgers finally played a close game.

At least it was close for a while.

Lampasas held a slim two-run lead at Lake Travis through three innings before manufacturing 10 unanswered runs over the final two innings to earn a 14-2 run-rule victory.

Despite receiving a brief scare, the Lady Badgers kept their undefeated District 25-4A record intact.

“We knew going in that Lake Travis was riding high [after winning its first two district games],” Lampasas head coach Chris Munoz said. “Beating Marble Falls 5-4 and run-ruling Killeen 18-3, those girls wanted to play us.

“I told the team that we need to go in with the same mentality that we had last week. No matter what the other team has done, we need to outwork them.”

With just four hits over the first four innings, Lampasas recorded five hits in the fifth inning and scored eight runs to pull away to victory.

After Kat Strickland and Madison Morris scored the first two runs of the inning to put the Lady Badgers up by six at 8-2, Tealey Farquhar blasted a triple into the outfield that brought Shelly Holcomb and Jennifer Herron home.

During Strickland’s second at bat of the inning, the junior sent two more runners home before she recorded the final run of the game off Morris’ single.

“I was pleased with us attacking them right off the bat in the first inning,” the coach said.

Each of the first four batters for Lampasas scored, as Bogart delivered a three-RBI double to start the evening’s scoring.

The Lady Cavaliers (2-1 District 25-4A) responded in the bottom of the first inning by picking up a pair of hits off starting pitcher Kady Crow. Lake Travis’ second hit was a triple by Hanna Contreras that brought home two runs.

The squads remained deadlocked over the next two innings until Holcomb scored on a passed ball, and shortstop Hadley Brown hit a sacrifice fly to score Farquhar.

“These girls are very emotional when it comes to playing hard,” Munoz said of his team. “It showed on the field with their determination. I am proud of them.”

The Lady Badgers (14-8, 3-0) return to the diamond tonight when they host Marble Falls at 7 p.m.

Lampasas’ upcoming game at Killeen was rescheduled from Friday to Thursday at 7 p.m.

In last Friday’s edition, Kat Strickland was inadvertantly listed as having hit a two-run home run against Hendrickson, and Marisa Bogart was credited with a one-run home run.

Bogart, in fact, was responsible for the two-run home run, and Strickland followed with the solo home run.
