The Lampasas sophomore placed 11th overall at the Texas Women’s High School State Powerlifting Championship in Corpus Christi Saturday after hoisting a total of 715 pounds and setting personal records in two of her three lifts.

Hensiek used a 305- pound squat and a 290- pound deadlift to propel her to the lofty final standing.

While Hensiek was the only Lady Badger to reach the state competition, head coach Duane Young is excited about what is to come for the program.

“I am very optimistic about the future of powerlifting at Lampasas,” the coach said. “Our lone senior was Andrea White. She competed for the first time this year and was successful in qualifying for regionals.

“Sophomores Hensiek and Ashley Seale provided leadership and guidance for the rest of the team, which consisted of first-time participants in the sport.”

Hensiek won her division at the Brady meet in mid-February and also at the regional meet in Elgin before competing at state.

More importantly, her totals increased in every meet of the season.

But she was not alone.

“My optimism is fueled by the fact that each lifter improved as the season progressed, and everyone is prepared to work hard in the offseason,” Young said. “With the recruitment of more lifters, we are poised to make next year a very successful year.”
