Officials serve breakfast for special national observance

PHOTO BY MAT TAYLOR Lampasas Independent School District Child Nutrition Department celebrated National School Breakfast Week recently by inviting guests to help serve breakfast at local campuses.

Superintendent Randy Hoyer, Assistant Superintendent Tony Peter, Lampasas County and District Attorney Larry Allison, Lampasas Middle School Principal Dwain Brock, LMS Assistant Principals Dana Holcomb and Russell Merket, Kim Thompson (school nurse), Robert and Elaine Mott (parents), Floyd Smith (teacher) and Melanie Brooks (teacher’s aide) helped serve students.

Cafeteria managers placed stickers on breakfast plates, and students who revealed a sticker won prizes including jump ropes, hula-hoops, soccer balls, basketballs and footballs.

Lampasas ISD Child Nutrition feeds breakfast to more than 1,000 students each day, and studies have shown that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and nutrition is crucial to students’ academic performance.
