Lometa High School juniors Cassidy Wienecke and Colt Maldonado left their mark at the Centennial State UIL Cross Examination Debate Meet Monday and Tuesday at the University of Texas in Austin. Breaking into the Octofinals, the duo finished among the top 16 CX debate teams in the state. Miss Wienecke, dropping only two points in four rounds of preliminary competition, was named the Silver Gavel winner as the number-two-ranked speaker in the state. The team is coached by Cheri Jay-Wienecke.
