History presentation given to San Antonio-Lampasas Club
Jane Alexander Knapik The San Antonio-Lampasas Club met March 6 at My Girls in Lampasas with 57 present. Following dinner, Jane Alexander Knapik, historian and writer of Texas history, presented the history that her mother had written in the 1940s about the Alexander family who settled on Mesquite Creek in 1854.
Other members of the family present were John Snell and Bobbye Alexander Behlau.
Mrs. Behlau introduced Joann Rainwater Vann and Mike Fox, whose ancestors were also early settlers on Mesquite Creek. Mrs. Behlau also recognized Sarah Fox, Ann Johnson, Wilda Mullins and Glynda Carpenter, who are members of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
Sarah Northington Fox recognized first-time attender Bill and Linda Kirby, who live on Mesquite Creek, as well as Cynthia Bloss, Joe Rushing and Kay and Mike Fox, all of Lampasas.
Others were Carl and Mildred McMillan of Brownwood, and Ray and Barbara Jeffrey of Bulverde.
Carey Deckard spoke about the loyalty of Lampasans and former Lampasans to their hometown, and praised those present who have preserved its history.
Mike Fox, representing the Curtis Bozarth-Sam Fowler Scholarship fund at Lampasas High School, gave information about the fund’s status and its recipients. Anne Bozarth McLean, daughter of Curtis Bozarth, passed one of her dad’s hats to take up a collection for the fund.
Next club meeting will be in October in San Antonio at La Fonda Restaurant.
