A memorial service for Koy L. Neeley, 91, of Georgetown is March 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Main Street Baptist Church in Georgetown.

Mr. Neeley died March 10.

He was born Dec. 6, 1918, in Royston in Fisher County, the son of Charles Carl and Annie Daniel Copeland Neeley.

He grew up on a farm in McAdoo with six sisters and a brother. They attended the Methodist church there.

Mr. Neeley received degrees at Texas Tech and Texas A&M. He served in the U.S. Navy, taught at Texas Tech and went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C., and the Hague in the Netherlands.

Because of his expertise, Mr. Neeley was the first to be appointed as agricultural attache’ to Peking, China, and to Tehran, Iran.

He retired in 1979 and settled in Lampasas.

In February 2004, Mr. Neeley moved to an assisted living facility in Georgetown.

Mr. Neeley enjoyed books, poetry, collecting stamps and genealogy.

He is survived by siblings, Nell Byrum of Anton, Joan Power of Rogers, Ark., and Kenneth Neeley of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Edith Neeley of Abilene, Earl Parker of Jayton, Thresa Holmes of Clyde, and Winnie D. Burney of Georgetown.
