Three Badgers made the District 25-4A all-district list, including, from left, Eduardo Davila, Aaron Reyna and Brandon Scott. Some say good things come to those who wait, but they also come to those who work.

A trio of Badgers recently were rewarded for their patience and persistence by being placed on the District 25-4A All-District awards list.

Despite failing to pick up a district victory all season, Eduardo Davila, Brandon Scott and Aaron Reyna were recognized by their rival coaches as the best players on a Lampasas squad bound for Class 3A competition next season.

Guard Davila landed on the alldistrict first team after leading Lampasas in scoring during his senior year. He averaged 12.1 points, while shooting a blistering 49 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the 3-point arc.

The program’s most recent Battlin’ Badger winner also recorded a team-high 20 blocks and was the squad’s second-best rebounder with 4.3 boards per contests.

PHOTOS BY RICHARD AKRIDGE Davila topped the 20-point plateau five times and scored at least 15 points on 11 occasions, but his most memorable showing came against Belton when he poured in 24 of his team’s 43 points.

Unfortunately, the effort came in a loss.

Against Class 5A Austin Westwood, however, Davila scored 18 points, which included a gamewinning, buzzer-beating 3-pointer that gave the Badgers a 46-45 victory.

Scott, a sophomore who played primarily with the junior varsity team in his freshman season, was one of just three underclassmen to earn a slot on the district’s first or second team.

Despite his relative inexperience at the varsity level, the 6-2 forward exploded onto the scene as the Badgers’ top rebounder (4.8 rpg), while ranking second on the team in scoring (6.8 ppg) and assists (1.6 apg).

Senior Aaron Reyna was named an honorable mention selection after serving as the team’s spark plug.

Although Reyna’s numbers (2.9 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.6 spg and 1.1 apg) do not leap off the page, he provided the team with numerous intangibles

Lampasas was the only school not to receive an individual award, as Lake Travis and Killeen earned two apiece, and Hendrickson, Marble Falls and Hutto split the others.

Tashawn Thomas of Killeen and David Eads of Lake Travis were named co- MVPs of the district, while the Kangaroos’ Jason Fossett and Hutto’s Gant Caraway shared the coach of the year honor.

Lake Travis senior Cole Vucurevich and Hendrickson junior Jalen Washington were named defensive and offensive player of year, respectively. Mustang Shane Minnick earned the newcomer of the year award as a junior.

Six Badgers, including the three all-district selections, finished the season as academic all-district members. Joining Davila, Scott and Reyna on the list are senior Astin Murray, and juniors Sean Beatty and Colton Perkins.
