That's LIFE
I keep hearing about all the talent in Lampasas County, and I have witnessed it on numerous occasions. This will be my first year to help with the County Fair exhibits, and I hope we will see a lot of entries.
I thought I’d share the various categories with you so you can begin (or finish) a project to enter, or perhaps you can be practicing on one of those favorite recipes, or canning a fruit or vegetable.
Entry at the fair this year is July 7. That gives you four months to prepare. There are no entry fees.
Categories include art and photography, baked goods, canned goods, crafts and textiles, and horticulture.
There are many different class divisions under each category. The exhibits will be judged and displayed at First Texas Bank’s community room.
Last year, there were 139 entries, and I am told that is down from the previous year.
Remember, this is your County Fair, so get involved.
I challenge everyone to double the entries this year. I’ll be reporting the results.
Anyone who wants a copy of the County Fair catalog can stop by the Texas AgriLife Extension Office at 409 S. Pecan in the Lampasas County Office Building. Phone 556-8271, ext. 140 for more information, or visit www.lampasastx. tamu.edu.

Classes will be offered to teach management of Type II diabetes.
Type II diabetes can cause many health complications, but those who have the disease can live long, healthy lives if they control blood glucose levels through good nutrition and proper daily management.
To improve these skills, persons with Type II diabetes are invited to register for “Do Well, Be Well With Diabetes,” a five-session series that will cover nine topics on nutrition and self-care.
Programs will be presented by Lampasas and area medical professionals from Monday, April 26 to May 4 from 5:30-8:15 p.m. at the Lampasas County Office Building’s conference room, 409 S. Pecan.
To register, phone the AgriLife Extension office.
Cost is $15 for the entire series or $25 per couple. The fee will be waived for anyone on Medicaid, disability or who receives food stamps.
A caretaker (spouse or parent) of the diabetic is encouraged to attend with the diabetes attender.
Registration deadline is April 12.
Those who complete the series, as well as anyone who has completed a previous series, is invited to register and participate in the Be Well With Diabetes Cooking School coming in June.
