The Badger blind side

Back in the fall, my wife Vickie and I had the good fortune to watch the movie called “The Blind Side.”

As you probably know, it is about a young man who was not going in the right direction in life until, all of a sudden, life turned for the better. The young man’s life turned around because of a family who decided to take him in and give him a sense of family.

This is a movie that I would recommend to everyone, so that we can all understand how important it is to help others. Sometimes we only think of ourselves and we soon forget how we need to help other people in life.

I am so blessed to have a coaching staff and faculty that truly care about our kids. We also have parents that are willing to step up and lend a hand, house, money, or whatever is needed when we have a child in need.

Our kids are so blessed to have people in our community that are willing to forget about their blind side and go forward by helping others.

I would hope that in the years to come, I would be able to help others like I was helped in my teenage years. I have a group of parents who I can call at a drop of a hat and ask for help for our kids and they will be there in a heartbeat.

There is nothing more gratifying than to see a young person smiling because they have been successful at something. The sense of pride that we put forth will be a direct correlation as to how we handle events.

So, in conclusion, forget about your blind side, and let’s help in our community and with our kids.

Joey McQueen is the Lampasas High School athletic director and the Badgers’ head football coach.
