Baseball falls at Shoemaker 18-8
Lampasas senior Colin Scheafnocker hit a firstinning home run at Shoemaker, but it was not enough to get the Badgers a win. PHOTO BY CLAY WHITTINGTON Last time the Badgers went to Shoemaker, Colin Scheafnocker blasted a game-changing home run.
Tuesday night, he delivered another.
Less than one week after hitting a grand slam against Killeen at the Wolf Pack Classic, Scheafnocker settled for a solo shot in the first inning against Shoemaker.
The home run put Lampasas up 3-0, but the Grey Wolves’ bats ended up stealing the show.
Shoemaker tallied 15 hits and beat the Badgers by 10 runs, 18-8, in a run-rule shortened five-inning game.
After Scheafnocker’s home run gave Lampasas a three-run advantage, the Grey Wolves responded with six runs in the bottom of the first inning.
A relatively quiet second inning set the stage for an explosion of offense between the teams as multiple runs were scored over each of the next three innings.
The Badgers posted two runs in the third and fifth innings to sandwich a second six-run outburst of the game for Shoemaker (4-6) in the fourth inning.
Lampasas gave plenty of assistance to the opposition with five errors in the game originally scheduled for Monday evening. Rain in Killeen forced the teams to push the contest back a day.
The Badgers (3-8) began play at the Glen Rose tournament Thursday and will conclude their stay Saturday, but Lampasas will not be gone for long.
The Tigers host the Badgers Tuesday at 2 p.m. Lampasas is also scheduled to play at Burnet (Wed., 3 p.m.) and Brownwood (March 19, 7:15 p.m.) over spring break before the squad opens District 25-4A play March 23 at home against Hendrickson.
