Garden club to observe 30th anniversary
Browning Community Garden Club members held their monthly meeting, opening with the reading of “An Irish Blessing.”
In a continuing theme study on shrubs, Koneta Saum spoke on the red-tipped photinia.
A Valentine’s party was held for residents of Windcrest Nursing Center.
Lampasas High School students Shelby Randolph and John Anderson, the club’s sponsored speech contestants, competed recently at the district meeting in Georgetown.
An article from the “National Gardener” on a landscape design angle of the Hudson River Valley was reviewed by Doris Magnor.
Mrs. Magnor gave a presentation on the cultivation and uses of herbs. She advised a subtle use of herbs when cooking, and the medicinal value of herbs such as garlic, comfry and mint.
The club’s 30th anniversary will be celebrated at the Kempner Brick Oven on Tuesday at noon. All former members are encouraged to attend.
Club members will participate in the “Don’t Mess with Texas” trashoff on April 3. Litter will be picked up at the club’s adopted two-mile stretch on FM 2657.
