Charles Edward “Ed” Phillips, 92, died Feb. 23, 2010.

A memorial service will be held at a later date for family and friends in Lampasas. He was buried Feb. 26 at Restland Cemetery in Dallas.

Mr. Phillips was born April 24, 1917, in Terrell.

He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1935, where five of his six children graduated. He attended Texas Christian University for two years, and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1939.

Mr. Phillips was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor and had other assignments. He was a lieutenant.

He grew up in the Phillips Variety Store business and was associated with his father and brother for many years in the family business.

Following that, Mr. Phillips served as manager of Weirs Furniture Village Country Store for seven years..

Retiring in 1988, he and his wife, Gladys, spent time visiting children and grandchildren in the U.S. and in Germany.

The couple were members of Reinhardt Bible Church since 1950, now in Garland and known as Firewheel Bible Fellowship.

He is survived by a sister, Betty McOmie of San Antonio; six children, Judith Tyson of Lampasas, Kathy Galde of San Ramon, Calif., Barbara Good of Dallas, Bill Phillips of Santa Clara, Calif., Bruce Phillips of Laytonsville, Md., and Courtney Rogers of Waxahachie; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Roche Phillips, after 57 years of marriage.
