Hutto hosted the Badgers varsity soccer team Friday evening and pounced on the squad immediately, scoring six first-half goals en route to an 8-0 victory.

Lampasas gave up two goals in the first 10 minutes, and the Hippos took advantage of several early penalty kicks they were awarded to take control.

“[It was a] bad day for the boys,” Badgers’ head coach Greg Porter said. “Hutto was awarded three penalty kicks for minor fouls, and the score got out of hand.”

Lampasas’ play improved in the second half, but the Badgers still allowed two scores.

“The game settled down [after halftime], and the kids got to actually play some soccer,” Porter said.

The Badgers are 1-11 in District 49-4A play heading into tonight’s road finale at Hendrickson. The start is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.

The Lady Badgers were involved in a lower-scoring affair, but still ended up losing.

Hutto scored twice in the first half and never gave up the lead, winning 2-0.

“We played the entire second half in their side of the field, but just could not get the ball in the net,” Lampasas head coach Mark Guszak said. “I seriously thought we were going to come back and win in the second half because of the shots we were getting, and how well we controlled the ball.

“We just could not finish.” After spending the first half of the game in the field, Liz Hawthorne returned to her normal position of goalkeeper in the second half and did not allow another Hutto score.

The Lady Badgers were without one of their best players as midfielder/forward Megan Mason broke her toe and will miss the remainder of the season.

Lampasas (3-9 District 49-4A) hosts Hendrickson tonight at 7:45 p.m. The Lady Badgers will have their Senior Night ceremonies prior to the match.
