Returning lost money to owner

On the evening of Thursday, March 4, my husband, daughter and I stopped at Wal-Mart. I noticed two gentlemen leaving the register as we got there. While standing at the register, my husband found some money lying on the floor.

We were running late, not exactly sure what to do, knowing that the money did not belong to us and that it is not right to keep something that does not belong to you. Praying that the person would realize it and come back to the store looking for it, he turned it in at the customer service desk.

I called the local radio station Friday morning and asked if they would announce that if someone had lost money last night at Wal-Mart, the money had been found and turned in at the customer service desk. I contacted Wal-Mart Friday afternoon and spoke to a manager named Kelly, and gave her the little information we have. She confirmed that they can review security tapes, so they should be able to verify the person who lost the money if they go back to get it.

I am not sure when the person will realize they lost the money or if they will remember when they lost the money. I know my first thought was if I had lost cash, there wouldn’t be any reason to look for it because of the old saying “finders keepers, losers weepers.” I would not believe anyone would turn in cash if they found it.

Right now there are a lot of people struggling because of the economy. There are a lot of people who live on a fixed income. It is terrible to think that could have been all the money that person had until next month. We just pray the money gets back to the person who it belongs to. God bless.
