A space heater started a fire in a residence on the east side of the city on Sunday, according to the Lampasas Fire Department.

At 1:15 p.m., firefighters were called to a single-family residence at 1601 E. Ave. I. Fire damage was limited to one room of the house, but smoke was present throughout the structure.

Firefighters cleared the scene at 2:45 p.m., and the Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.
