After cruising past St. Michael’s Academy 11-0 in the first game of pool play Friday morning, Lampasas was beaten 4-0 by a highly touted Elgin team.

The loss dropped the Lady Badgers into the silver bracket, where the team ran through Clifton in a 14-run shutout before clinching the silver-bracket championship with a 1-0 win over Austin Anderson.

“I am proud of these girls for playing together and battling the whole weekend,” Lampasas head coach Chris Munoz said. “When it was getting tougher, they were digging deeper, and they pulled it out.

“All of them were MVPs in my book.”

Lampasas shortstop Hadley Brown fields a ground ball. While all the players deserved credit according to the coach, three in particular stood out from the bunch.

Leftfielder Kat Strickland, junior Marisa Bogart and pitcher Kady Crow each landed on the alltournament team, while Crow was named the silver bracket’s MVP.

In the championship game, Crow pitched all seven innings with eight strikeouts and only four hits. She also went one for three at the plate with the team’s lone RBI.

Sophomore Tealy Farquhar and Strickland both went two for three in their at-bats.

Against Clifton, the Lady Badgers needed just five innings to post 14 runs and take the win via the mercy rule.

Junior southpaw Taylor Holloman picked up the victory. She threw for nine strikeouts in the one-hit showing.

Strickland went three for four at the plate with two RBIs and a triple. Shelly Holcomb finished three of four at the plate as well.

Bogart, Crow, Hadley Brown, Jennifer Herron and Callyn Smith recorded at least one RBI apiece in the victory.

The Lady Badgers travel to Brownwood tonight for a 7 p.m. start before beginning the two-day Austin Bowie tournament Friday.
