Monthly gathering
The first Saturday of each month, folks living in the area of the old
Rumley Community Store get together as early as 7:30 a.m. for a cup
of coffee, a homemade muffin or a slice of breakfast cake, and they discuss
who’s doing what and what’s happening in the community as well
as in Lampasas. The tradition has been ongoing for about a decade.
Though some of the old-timers have passed away, there are a few new
families who drop by and meet with their neighbors. Pictured are those
who showed up last Saturday. Seated, center, is the group’s oldest
member and longtime resident Alton Garner, who rarely misses a
first Saturday. At the first Saturday gathering in April, the group
will help Garner celebrate his 100th birthday. Everyone is invited to
stop by.
