Brothers arrested for arson; other charges pending

Lampasas County sheriff’s investigators, working in conjunction with Lampasas Fire Marshal Reece Oestreich and the Copperas Cove Police Department, have arrested two Kempner men for arson. These arrests also tie in to several burglary investigations.

Investigator John Seery said the Jan. 20 arson of a 1993 Jeep Wrangler that broke down on FM 580 East was the result of a burglary attempt by two brothers, and those men are being examined in connection with a number of burglaries in Lampasas and Copperas Cove.

After the arson and a Crime Stoppers tip, one of the burglary suspects in an earlier investigation confessed to the break-ins and also gave information that led to the arrest of 17-year-old Brandon Michael Scott on Thursday and 22- year-old Craig Edward Scott on Friday. Arrests were made by Seery, Investigator David Thorp and Texas Ranger Jesse Ramos.

Seery said the brothers had planned to burglarize the vehicle, and one of them decided to set it on fire. Damage to the Jeep resulted in a total loss.

“It is always nice that we were able to work with other agencies as a team to catch them,” Seery said of the brothers.

Other charges are pending against the pair.
