Mrs. Gibbs

Mass of Christian Burial was held Feb. 6, 2010, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lampasas for Mary Gibbs, 92, with Father Pedro Castillo officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Gibbs died Feb. 4 at her residence.

She was born Aug. 2, 1917, in Wallis, to Louis and Frances Olsovsky.

Mrs. Gibbs spent most of her early years in Alice, graduating from Alice High School. She attended business school in Laredo.

She married Jack Gibbs of Burnet on Jan. 14, 1940, and they moved to Lampasas in 1958. They were married 54 years before his death on Nov. 15, 1995.

Mrs. Gibbs was a homemaker and member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was active in the Women’s Altar Society. She also was a teacher’s aide for several years at Kline Whitis Elementary School.

Survivors include four sons, Jack Gibbs and Georgie, and Meredith Gibbs and Chrisdean, all of Hempstead, Mike Gibbs and Cecile of San Antonio, and Sam Gibbs and Marvy of Maui, Hawaii; two daughters, Sandra Gonzales of Lampasas and Mary Ann Cox and Johnny of Stanton; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Louis Olsovsky of Yoakum.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Caroline Olsovsky and Frances Wasicek, and a brother, Emil Olsovsky.
