The Badgers hosted the Vipers and lost 2-0, while the Lady Badgers traveled to Vandergrift and lost 1-0.

The defeats drop both teams’ early District 49-4A records to 1-2.

Playing shorthanded, the Lady Badgers were without three starters, and head coach Mark Guszak admits his team did not play an impressive match.

He did, however, see positives during the loss.

“We had great games from [goalkeeper] Liz Hawthorn, who made several incredible saves, Andrea Dibble, who once again battled with an injury, and River Hooks, who gave as much as any player could give,” Guszak said. “The bright side is that we had to play players that had not played all year, and this allowed us to see what they could do.”

After picking up their first victory of the season last week, the Badgers were shut out at home as the Vipers scored their second and final goal five minutes into the second half.

Lampasas held Vandergrift scoreless for almost the entire first half, but gave up a goal with 35 seconds remaining before halftime when the Badgers’ defense failed to clear the ball.

“We had several opportunities to score, but were unable to finish,” Lampasas head coach Greg Porter said.

The Badgers travel to face Lake Travis tonight at 7:45 p.m., while the Lady Badgers will play the Lady Cavaliers in Lampasas at 7:45 p.m.
