“She’s a great lady and EXTREMELY nice. She has always helped kids when they need it, and was a really great teacher.” -Russ Clark, LHS Class of 2007

A native Lampasan, Connie Hendrix was born at Rollins Brook Community Hospital, one of seven children. She loved the outdoors and sports from birth.

She started her college life at Texas Tech University on a full federal grant, but after one semester she had an offer she could not refuse. Tim Hendrix asked her to be his wife. She obviously made a good decision, as 33 years later she still is married to him.

Connie did not aspire to be a teacher initially, but after looking at her options of being with her children as much as possible and having a career, she chose the teaching field. She completed her education at Southwestern University in Georgetown, where the Hendrixes lived for 10 years. She earned her degree in elementary education with a minor in physical education.

The Hendrixes have two children, Wade and Holly, and one grandchild, Ridge Kwade Hill.

Connie Hendrix is a person who “walks the walk, and does not just talk the talk.” She is one of the most physically fit teachers, and people, in Lampasas. She taught fourth grade for 17 years and is in her eighth year of teaching elementary PE.

Leading by example, she has completed the Danskin Triathalon six years in a row. (The triathalon includes competition in three athletic events: swimming a half-mile, biking 12 miles and running 3.1 miles or a 5K.) She has completed the Spring Ho Toughest 10K in Texas 15 consecutive times, and she and her husband are master divers. They learned to dive in the ’80s and love water sports.

Connie said she absolutely loves her career as a teacher but is retiring to spend as much time as possible with her new grandson. Her son Wade is married to the former Lauren Atkinson, and her daughter Holly is married to Ryan Hill.

Connie is grateful to be nominated as an honorary coach. She hopes she has made a difference in people’s lives and will continue to do so in other areas of her life. She truly does practice what she preaches, and is an excellent role model and mentor for students and for her peers in living a healthy lifestyle.
